Uncle! Today it _is_ too cold to ride PDF Print E-mail

Well, I didn't think it would get too cold to ride here in NC.  Today's the day though! As an NC gal who lived (and rode) through many mid-west winters in Indiana, I never thought I'd miss a day of riding in NC due to cold alone.

In Indiana, I had my warm weather system down-pat: longjohns, cotton turtleneck, and wool sweater on top (the order IS important!) and those great insulated winter overpants and regular breeches for lower body.  A big fat down coat on top and I was set to go.  I don't like to ride in heavy boots so I'd just wear my regular riding boots and light socks for riding and switch _immediately_ after riding to my warmer boots.  I've started using those hand warmer things and they're useful for barn chores.

But, this morning, I just can't do it! The temperature outside when I woke up was 16 degrees but with windchill feels like 8 degrees.  Today is supposed to top out at low 30s.  So, ponies and I will take a day to reflect on our training ;-) and stay as warm as possible.

 Stay warm!
